Wellington Cup Team

The Wellington Cup is almost here, the event is in two weeks, so we have finalised the MaD CrossFit team for the competition. Yesterday those who were up for it took part in a series of skill and strength tests, capped off by a “fun” AMRAP triplet of Thrusters, Burpees and high Box Jumps. Lots of PR’s during the testing which was awesome, then a ton of hard graft in the workout. The team is:

Rx – Woodrow, Josh, Lou and Lea

Scaled – Matty and Tash

Reserves – Grant and Paule

Please plan on getting down during the event to support the team, more details will be revealed in the next couple of weeks and we will keep you updated. More info on the event is HERE.

Crossfit Total – Sat Aug 17

The CrossFit Total is the sum of the best of three attempts at the squat, the press, and the deadlift. In place of regular Saturday classes we are going to extend the 9am session to allow plenty of time to get your lifts in.

Some of you have been asking about our trip to the USA and the Games, so here is Donna’s take on them.

How were the games?

Fun, hot, sunny and exciting. We arrived on Tuesday so we were able to see a lot of the masters competition. Very inspiring, in fact, you should do some of the masters workouts and compare your times to theirs. Very humbling.

Masters Final

Paige and some of her friends were at the games. We got to catch up with old friends and made some new ones. We got there about 8:30 each morning, grabbed seats and sent someone out for bacon most mornings.

Annie T. Matt and Hefty

They had a big vendor village set up for shopping, big Rogue and Reebok presence. They had workouts and demos throughout the day. On Thursday we ran into a lot of the athletes.

Rogue Bumper Wall

What was the best part?

Sitting in the second row, when they announce ‘Fittest Man Alive RIIICCCCHHH FROOONING’ and Woodrow clapped and screamed like a little girl.  Having Paige there! Her first Games!

Rich Legless

 How was the food?

We ate a lot of bacon and burgers and sweet potato fries. I think this was the first games they didn’t run out of food.

What did you do after?

We drove the Pacific Coast Highway to Morro Bay with Paige. We stayed there over night, it was such a pretty little town, not crowded.  Know for a large amount of shark attacks. There were shark t-shirts everywhere! No I did not go for a swim.

Sunset Morro Bay

Then we drove to Big Sur, no cell signal so Paige had to talk to us. Then got to Sacramento that afternoon, went to CrossFit Envy for a wod…..

Who we chatted with:

Justin from CrossFit East Sac, Mark Bell from Super Training, Robb Wolf and his wife Nicki, Jeff Tucker from GSX Athletics, Caity Mattier from Rouge, Rob Orlando from Hybrid Athletics, Coach Burgener, Raw Edge CrossFit, Doug Chapman from Hyper Fit…to name a few. Most wanting to come to New Zealand for a seminar or holiday. Was good to catch up with people and talk about business and how things have changed over the year. Also got to finally meet Taz and Pat’s new Baby Barber!

Another great trip! Sunny and warm every day. We are bringing back a few ways to improve MaD CrossFit, as well as some cool spot prizes for our next in house competition.

Special thanks to all our Coaches for holding down the fort. We could not do this without your support!

We brought back some free sample stuff (its on the desk) lots of new reading material and a program from the games. Enjoy 🙂
